Craig Garby

Craig Garby is a commercial and licensing transactional attorney with over twenty years of experience serving technology clients. In addition to drafting complex commercial agreements, Craig provides comprehensive business and legal guidance as clients develop, acquire, protect, commercialize and manage technologies and intangible assets worldwide. Craig assists in structuring terms, conducting negotiations and drafting agreements for complex licensing, development, distribution, outsourcing and strategic partnership transactions.
Craig started his legal career with the Silicon Valley-based law firm of Cooley Godward, LLP. He later practiced as an intellectual property/technology transactions attorney at the national firm of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher, LLP, and was the partner in charge of licensing matters at the Denver firm of Rothgerber Johnson & Lyons, LLP. In 2010, Craig took the entrepreneurial plunge by starting his own firm, Law Offices of Craig Garby, LLC, before founding Bold Legal in 2016.
Craig received a J.D. from Stanford Law School, received an M.A. in Public Administration from Cornell University, conducted graduate research at Waseda University in Tokyo and received a B.A. from the University of Colorado. He taught “Copyright Law” for four years and “IP and Technology Contracting” for five years at the University of Colorado Law School. He served as the Asia Program Associate of the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars in Washington DC, and as the Deputy Director of the Denver office of JETRO, a Japanese Ministry of International Trade and Industry agency.
In addition to his work at Bold Legal, Craig founded Breakaway IP, a venture that provides intellectual property advice to clients. Beyond law, Craig is boldly committed to his wife, Linda, and to his twins, who are both college students, and supporting CU . . . go Buffs!
